Our journey began on January 3, 1928, when Halifax District Hospital first opened its doors, established by the state legislature with 125 licensed beds. During World War II, it served as a convalescent facility before being remodeled in 1947 to return as an acute care general hospital. In 1985, we became the region's sole Level II Trauma Center and adopted the name Halifax Medical Center. Expanding our reach, Halifax Health – Medical Center of Port Orange was launched in 2007 to serve southern Volusia County residents. The completion of the France Tower in 2009 brought additional services, and in 2020, the Halifax Health Medical Center of Deltona joined our network, forming a comprehensive three-hospital system.
Today, Halifax Health is recognized as one of the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in the United States by IBM Watson Health. We proudly serve Volusia and Flagler counties through a robust network that includes a tertiary hospital, two community hospitals, urgent care, psychiatric services, a cancer treatment center with five outreach locations, the area's largest hospice, inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation clinics, primary care walk-in clinics, a women's health clinic, a pediatric care community clinic, three children's medical practices, a home healthcare agency, and an exclusive provider organization.
We offer the region's only Level II Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, Center for Transplant Services, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Child and Adolescent Behavioral Services, complete Neurosurgical Services, OB Emergency Department, and Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for babies born before 28 weeks. Our growth and success are deeply rooted in community support and partnerships with Brooks Rehabilitation, UF Health, YMCA, local colleges, our Board of Commissioners, and our dedicated team members who strive to deliver exceptional service every day.
