Job Summary and QualificationsPOSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinator must exhibit appropriate knowledge and skills needed for the administration of general respiratory pharmacology and therapeutics, to include: patient education, patient assessment, patient responses, accurate dosing and side effects in all appropriate age groups. Therapist must also demonstrate the skills and ability to make appropriate therapeutic changes (recommendations) in patient care to reflect medications, therapeutic modality, and equipment use. The ability to conduct chart audits will also be essential.
Coordinator must demonstrate knowledge and ability to develop continuing education programs needed to maintain and improve practice standards in the department.
Coordinator must demonstrate knowledge and ability to organize interdisciplinary inservices and educational sessions.
Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining certifications by CAP in the blood gas laboratory areas, including responsibility of all necessary studies, QC/QI, PT testing, maintenance, and official reporting.
Coordinator must demonstrate knowledge and ability to adhere to facility infection control standards and identify and report potential or violations of the documented standards.
Coordinator must demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to troubleshoot and maintain blood gas instruments, including proper cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilization of.
Coordinator must demonstrate the ability to professionally and effectively communicate with all internal and external customers.
Coordinator must demonstrate the knowledge and ability to provide resourceful clinical information and education to internal and external customers.
Coordinator must demonstrate the skills needed to recognize and report suspected abuse and neglect in all patient age groups, as outlined by state and federal law.
Coordinator must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to assess and document pain in the patient, as outlined in the facility pain management program.
Coordinator must demonstrate knowledge, skills and ability to recognize and report any safety issues observed in the patient and non-patient areas of the facility.
Coordinator must demonstrate knowledge and ability to adhere to facility Patient rights (including privacy) standards and identify and report and potential or violations of the documented standards, state, or federal laws.
Coordinator must demonstrate knowledge and ability to adhere to the professional code of ethics as established by the AARC.
POPULATION SERVED:
Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: Pulmonary conditions including but not limited to: COPD, CHF, PE, asthma, and all other constrictive and restrictive pulmonary disorders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Uses knowledge and skills of respiratory care standards and emergency procedures to provide safe and effective patient care.
Provides education and education materials to staff to maintain or advance current respiratory care standards and practice.
Assist the department in accomplishing skill review assessment of therapist.
Assist the department in orientation of new employees.
Maintains strict infection control techniques, while meeting facility standards at all times.
Provides education and education materials (where necessary) to patients and their family members.
Practices, develops, and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internal and external customers.
Participate in Quality Improvement activities for the department and /or facility routinely, including but not limited to JCAHO and CAP standards and reporting.
Person in this position must be proficient in CAP, CLIA JCAHO standards.
Person in this position may be delegated as Technical Consultant which requires a minimum of a bachelors degree in respiratory therapy or cardiovascular technology from an accredited institution with at least two years of laboratory training or experience in blood gas testing
Person in this position must be proficient in performing proficiency testing and comparison studies.
Person in this position must be proficient in writing reports explaining finding dealing with proficiency testing and correlation studies
Person in this position must be able to read graphs and charts
Person in this position must be able to multi-task different projects
Person in this position must be familiar with blood gas instrument operation
Person in this position must be familiar with data management system for blood gas instruments
Person in this position must be proficient in using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft word and all functions of Microsoft outlook e-mail.

What qualifications you will need:
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Certificate of Completion or Education Degree or Associates of Science in Respiratory Care from an accredited college or university.(must provide copy of Diploma or proof of graduation)
Certificate by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) - Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or commensurate experience. (must provide proof of RRT credential from NBRC)
5-year (minimal) clinical experience in an acute care or rehabilitation setting.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Current ACLS PALS and NRP provider preferred.
Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care from an accredited college or university preferred.
Experience in critical care, including but not limited to ER, ICU/CCU, PICU, and/or SCN (ICN).
Knowledge and skilled in the use of personal computers and/or healthcare information technology. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel.
Knowledge of JCAHO and CAP/CLIA standards.
