About

Since its inception with Hershey Medical Center in 1970, Penn State Health has expanded into a comprehensive network of healthcare facilities. Today, it encompasses five adult acute care hospitals, a children's hospital, and various specialty hospitals and sites. In 2017, the organization welcomed Physicians’ Alliance LTD, Lancaster County's largest independent physician practice group, into its fold. That same year marked a strategic partnership with Highmark Health to establish a value-based, community care network.

In 2020, Holy Spirit Health System in East Pennsboro Township, Pa., joined Penn State Health, further enhancing our reach and capabilities. The opening of Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center in Enola, Pa., in October 2021 represented a $300 million investment in acute care services. A year later, Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center began serving patients in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County.

Our mission is to continually enhance the health and well-being of individuals across Pennsylvania and beyond. We are committed to delivering excellent, compassionate, culturally responsive, and equitable care. As educators and trainers of healthcare professionals, we advance medical innovation through rigorous research and discovery.

Our vision is clear: to be Pennsylvania’s most trusted healthcare organization. We strive to set the standard for quality care and innovation in the medical field.
