Our journey began in 1883 when Barney Kroger invested his life savings of $372 to open a grocery store at 66 Pearl Street in downtown Cincinnati. Guided by the motto, “Be particular. Never sell anything you would not want yourself,” Kroger has maintained this commitment for nearly 140 years. Today, as the nation’s largest grocer, we operate nearly 2,800 stores across 35 states under 28 different names, continually adapting to meet our customers’ evolving needs by making fresh food accessible to all.
