About

Hospice of Marion County (HMC) has been a cornerstone of compassionate end-of-life care in our community since 1983. As a not-for-profit organization, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centered services to individuals and their families during life's most challenging times.

Our Mission

Our mission is to deliver expert, compassionate care that enhances the quality of life for our patients and offers support to their loved ones. We believe in addressing not only the physical needs but also the emotional and spiritual aspects of end-of-life care, ensuring a holistic approach for every individual we serve.

Comprehensive Services

At HMC, we offer a wide range of services tailored to meet the unique needs of our patients:

Hospice Care: We provide expert end-of-life care wherever our patients call home, be it a private residence, assisted living facility, nursing home, or one of our three Hospice Houses.

Inpatient Care: For patients requiring more intensive medical attention, our Hospice Houses offer a comfortable, home-like environment with around-the-clock care.

Supportive/Palliative Care: Our Carewell Supportive Care program focuses on symptom management to relieve suffering and improve the quality of life for those with serious illnesses.

Grief Support: Through the Monarch Center, we provide counseling and support groups to help individuals and families navigate the emotional journey of loss.

Dementia Education: Recognizing the unique challenges posed by dementia, we offer resources, support, and education for families dealing with this condition.

Veterans Services: We honor and support our veterans with specialized care programs that address their specific needs and experiences.

Our Team

Our interdisciplinary team comprises board-certified physicians, advanced practice registered nurses, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants, social workers, chaplains, grief counselors, and trained volunteers. Together, we collaborate to create individualized care plans that respect the wishes and needs of each patient.

Community Engagement

Beyond patient care, HMC is deeply committed to the well-being of our community. We offer educational programs, support groups, and outreach initiatives to raise awareness about end-of-life care options and to support individuals in making informed decisions.

Our History

Founded in 1981 as Ocala Hospice, we became licensed by the State of Florida in 1983. Over the years, we've expanded our services and facilities, including the opening of our first Hospice House in 1992 and the establishment of our Transitions program in 2001. In 2023, we affiliated with Empath Health, becoming part of one of the nation’s largest non-profit, integrated networks of care.
