Aurora Community Services was established on April 18, 1986, in Menomonie, Wisconsin. On that rainy day, founders Dave Barnard and Jim Neuman stood at an auction, determined to acquire two beds for their new residential home. Their dedication stemmed from a shared vision: to serve individuals with disabilities by providing them the opportunity to live in communities of their choice with tailored support programs.
Recognizing a gap in available services, Dave and Jim left their positions at a local health facility to create Aurora Community Services. Their mission was clear—to build a supportive environment that respects individual needs and fosters community integration for those with disabilities.
