Asheville Specialty Hospital (ASH), a proud affiliate of Mission Health, is a distinguished long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) licensed for 34 patient rooms. As the only LTACH in western North Carolina accredited by The Joint Commission, ASH is dedicated to providing specialized care for patients with complex medical conditions. These include severe wounds, respiratory and cardiac issues, renal failure, traumatic brain injuries, strokes, spinal cord injuries, and significant surgical complications.
Patients typically transfer to ASH from acute care hospitals, often from intensive care or step-down units, with an average stay of 30 days. Our patients are medically complex, necessitating comprehensive multispecialty services. Our team of board-certified physicians and nurse practitioners conduct daily rounds, while registered nurses deliver 24-hour care. We excel in managing multiple intravenous medications and assisting patients on or transitioning from prolonged ventilator support.
The extended length of stay at ASH allows us to optimize each patient's health for discharge. Many patients successfully transition to home, rehabilitation facilities, or skilled nursing care. We also coordinate hospice care when needed post-discharge. Our multidisciplinary team approach ensures a cohesive treatment plan tailored to each patient. This team includes medical staff, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, registered dieticians, wound care specialists, nurses, chaplains, and experts from pharmacy, respiratory therapy, rehabilitation, and case management.
At ASH, we are committed to helping patients regain their health and independence following catastrophic injuries or illnesses. Our specialized care and collaborative efforts empower patients on their journey to recovery.
