Rang Healthcare is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Cortez, Colorado.

Position Description

ROLE ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS: Regulatory/Educational Requirements

. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Associate degree required; bachelors degree preferred.

. Current state Registered Nurse Licensure, within state of Colorado. Compact license accepted

. Current BLS Certification.

. Current PALS certification - PALS can be obtain at the facility if candidate does not have.

. Current ACLS certification .

ROLE PURPOSE: Administer nursing care to patients in an efficient, safe, and courteous manner using appropriate nursing procedures. The nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The nurse must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. The nurse must also possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients clinical needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the units/areas/departments policies and procedures. The nurse must be clinically competent to care for patients, knowledgeable about disease processes, and be able to identify symptoms and/or signs of complications. The nurse must have the ability to utilize information technologies to meet patient needs and provide evidence-based care to improve health outcomes.

3. SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL ROLE FUNCTIONS:

. Practices within Nursing Standards of Practice and follows SHS Policies and Procedures, Patient Bill of Rights, and Accreditation Standards.

. Operates within scope of position. Demonstrates current, comprehensive, evidence based, professional knowledge and skills.

. Focuses on patient centered care, team building and customer service.

. Understanding of telemetry monitoring and maintains a knowledge of basic arrhythmia interpretation.

. Supervises non-professional staff in delivery of care to assigned patients. Makes work assignments, assists with priority setting, and acts as a resource for less experienced staff.

. Assists physicians in care of the patients. Makes rounds, assists with procedures, provides progress reports on patient status, and assures that orders are carried out in a timely manner.

. Follows procedure for medication administration and processes for controlled substances. Utilizes EMAR including scanning all medications and armbands.

. Assume professional responsibility for assuring patient care is of the highest standards. Communicates questions about appropriateness of medical or nursing care through chain of command as needed.

. Participates in in-service programs as both student and teacher. Takes initiative and primary responsibility for keeping own knowledge and skills current.

. Participates in departmental meetings, resuscitation drills and other educational opportunities.

. Assists in peer and staff evaluations, data collection, and chart reviews as requested.

. Adheres to standards of safety and infection control in delivery of patient care.

. Assists nursing staff in other departments as requested when the need arises.

. Initiates a patient plan of care on admission including co-morbidities and revises as needed based on patient care standards.

. Responds promptly to changes in workload, adjusting assignments as necessary, to provide optimal care and meet the needs of the unit.

. Maintains a knowledge of the patients status during hospitalization and works with health care team to adjust and improve approach to care. Utilizes critical thinking skills for appropriate patient interventions.

. Evaluates interventions appropriately and assesses the effectiveness of care. Communicates and re-evaluates as needed.

. Documents nursing care in a timely and accurate manner.

. Utilizes technology to document, evaluate and manage patient outcomes

. Follows SHS and regulatory policy and procedures for documentation.

. Participates in on-going personal and professional development.

. Keeps abreast of all current hospital and department policies and procedures.

. Exhibits cooperation and a positive attitude toward others, participates as an active team member.

. Acts as a resource for other team members and students by knowledge sharing and providing support when requested.

. Demonstrates flexibility with working hours and shifts scheduled to meet staffing requirements within department.

. Adheres to SHS attendance and punctuality policies to ensure the department is operating in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

. Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.

4. MINIMUM ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

. Adheres to dress code; appearance is clean and neat.

. Completes annual educational requirements, both regulatory and organizational.

. Ensures patient confidentiality.

. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures.

. Employee performs within the prescribed limits of the hospitals/departments Ethics and Compliance Program. Is responsible to detect, observe and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, or upward through the chain of command, the Compliance officer or hospital hotline.

. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

. Employees will care for patients of all cultural and religious backgrounds. Be prepared to care for patients of diverse cultural and/or religious backgrounds.

. Communicates the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

5. ROLE ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS: Regulatory/Educational Requirements

. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Associate degree required; bachelors degree preferred.

. Current state Registered Nurse Licensure, within state of Colorado. Compact license accepted and Colorado License must be obtained within first 90 days of hire.

. Current BLS Certification.

. Current PALS certification within 6 months of hire (excludes FBC).

. Current ACLS certification within 6 months of hire.

. Successful completion of EKG course within 4 months of hire.

. Unit Specific requirements:

o ICU: Minimum of 1 year ICU/ /Inpatient experience preferred.

o FBC: Successful completion of basic fetal monitoring course within 4 months of hire.

o FBC: NRP certification within 4 months of hire Language Skills

. Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

. Additional languages preferred.

. Excellent customer service skills.

. Confidentiality required. Work Environment

. The job requires potential exposure to infectious waste and an assortment of chemicals and pharmaceuticals as well as foul odors.

. The noise level is moderate to occasionally loud, occasional interactions with belligerent and/or aggressive patients and significant others are possible.

. Exposure to environmental factors including heat, cold, precipitation such as snow and rain, and wind is possible. Physical Demands

Physical Demands (STRENGTH - HEAVY): Exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
