The Neuro Rapid Response RN Coordinator will respond to all Stroke Alerts, Interventional Radiology alerts and any other neurological patient care emergency. The Neuro RRT/Coordinator will perform surveillance by identifying the patients at risk for complications or becoming seriously ill by using proactive approach, making rounds frequently to collaborate with the bedside nurses as part of a collaborative approach. Consistent and routine presence of Neuro RRT/Coordinator will provide nurses support, clinical knowledge and expertise to build trust and familiarity amongst each other. The Neuro RRT/Coordinator should take the role of teacher both during and after the event in order to best help the inexperienced nurses.

What you will do in your role:

• You will attend stroke alerts, Interventional Radiology alerts and all other neurological patient related emergencies. Documents all Neuro Alert events in a thorough and timely manner on the RRT documentation form.
• You will have excellent patient assessment skills including determining the frequency, scope and duration of ongoing assessments of patients not transferred to the ICU or equivalent.
• You will stay with the patient until the issue is resolved, appropriate interventions are completed and /or patient is safely transferred to the appropriate unit for ongoing management (assists with transport)
• Coach staff on development of assessment, communication and clinical skills when the opportunity arises
• Participates in sentinel event investigations and root cause analysis activities to reduce risk and increase patient safety

What qualifications you will need:

• Graduate of an accredited program of nursing: diploma, associate degree, or baccalaureate program.
• Must have a minimum of 3 years of recent experience in an ICU or an ER
• Required: Current license to practice professional nursing in the state of Texas.
• Required: Current ACLS, BLS, NIH stroke scale
• Preferred experience: charge nurse experience, Neurology service line experience
