The HCANJ Foundation, Inc. (HCANJF) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving the quality of life and quality of care available to residents and caregivers in the sub-acute and long term care community within the State of New Jersey. The Foundation pursues this mission through research, education, and the development of practical implementation strategies aimed at healthcare professionals and paraprofessional staff, as well as the support network of family and friends that provide medical and emotional support to residents of New Jersey's subacute and long term care centers.
HCANJF participates in research studies with other non-profit, charitable, and academic institutions that focus on improving the quality of care. Within these partnerships, educational curricula designed to detail the best practices for healthcare providers in the long term care community are developed and implemented for healthcare providers involved in the delivery of care to the aged and disabled residents of New Jersey.
The Foundation provides, among other things, education regarding emergency management preparedness for public health issues, terrorist-induced disasters, natural disasters, active shooter situations, and bioterrorism through its Emergency Preparedness program. Other educational and instructional programs include those programs for recruitment and retention of staff, employee and resident safety, leadership and management training, the implementation of quality improvement, measurement and management systems, center design, and other health-related topics geared toward improving the quality of care for post-acute and long term care residents.
HCANJF collaborates with the New Jersey Department of Health (DOH) on a voluntary quality improvement and benchmarking program for assisted living known as Advanced Standing. The program is open to all licensed assisted living residences and comprehensive personal care homes in New Jersey. To receive the DOH distinction of Advanced Standing, a community must pass an annual on-site evaluation conducted by a third-party consultant, comply with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and collect and submit quality data to demonstrate that it has achieved benchmarks established by a Peer Review Panel.
